I couldn’t stand or walk or put any amount of weight on legs. Regular daily activities were out of the question for me. Triboro Center got me going again—a very welcoming staff. Therapy was so much fun and at the same time useful. My family is very happy with my improvement. The rehab staff is the best, they are all very hard-working. I had open heart surgery at Montefiori Moses Hospital, and needless to say, I was very weak and had pain and swelling. It was extremely difficult for me to get around. An uncle of mine recommended Triboro Center for my rehab. The team there was very welcoming—even sweet. They assessed my condition and created a rehab program specifically for me. My condition had gone from bad to worse. I was anemic—dizzy, tired and short of breath. My diabetes and high blood pressure contributed to my weakness. I couldn’t get out of bed—which led to a pressure ulcer on my hip. I need rehab, and I knew exactly where to go: Triboro Center. I’d been there before, and I knew from experience that they are excellent. The team didn’t disappoint. The therapists checked in with me every day, as did my nurse. The rehab program they designed for me worked wonders. When I came to Triboro Center, I couldn’t get out of bed. Two months later I’m home, walking and going up stairs on my own!

I was weak and my blood pressure was very high. I was a fall-risk and was susceptible to seizures. Once I arrived at Triboro Center, the staff made me feel welcome. My experience with therapy was excellent. The exercises and activities helped me feel better, too. I felt supported and my family appreciated the fact that I recovered fast. The rehab staff were all really good people and were highly professional, especially Mr. Matthew, Mr. Sanket, Mr. Krishna and Mr. Ryan, who all made contributions to my success. Many people don’t understand how debilitating arthritis can be. I feel the pain in all my joints, and not long ago my right knee completely locked up. I couldn’t bend it. It was impossible for me to cook a meal, do my laundry—do simple activities that most take for granted. I spent some time in the hospital, but it was when I was discharged and transferred to Triboro Center that I began to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The rehab team checked in with me every day, and—this is amazing—they even made my exercises enjoyable! My greatest joy, however, came when I walked out of the facility on my own, to the cheers of the staff. I’m back home now, cooking my own meals and doing my own laundry. The doctors told me I suffered cardiogenic shock, which meant that my heart couldn’t pump enough blood. The hospital saved my life, but even after being discharged, the pain in my limbs was terrible. I fell out of bed and broke my right arm. The pain was excruciating. St. Barnabas Hospital repaired the bone, but I was still in pain. I couldn’t dress myself and I was afraid to stand up on my own. I was worried that I’d lose my balance and take another fall. Thankfully, I was discharged to Triboro Center for my rehab. The medical staff and the therapists—the whole team—recognized that it wasn’t just about a broken bone. They treated the whole me, managing my pain and my fears. The pain is gone now as is my fear. The Triboro Center team built up my strength and my confidence. My goal was to get back to how I was before I took the fall. But they did more than that. Because I feel stronger and healthier than ever!

I have arthritis, which is hard enough, but my condition got much worse when I got cellulitis in my leg. The infection was so bad, the pain so intense, I couldn’t even get out of bed. Going to Triboro Center was truly life-changing for me. First, the medical team, led by a wound specialist, addressed my infection. They worked wonders. Speaking of working wonders, the physical and occupational therapists designed a rehab program for me and worked with me six days a week. The infection is under control. I can get out of bed—even go up stairs—on my own. I was at Triboro Center for seven weeks—seven weeks that made a world of difference for me!

I was in a very bad car accident. Several of the bones in my pelvic region were either broken or fractured. After surgery, I could barely walk or do anything on my own. I found the help I needed at Triboro Center for rehab. The therapy team was exceptional, especially Rachel and Shormin. They knew exactly what to do to make me independent again. I had surgery on my back to remove some spurs and relieve my arthritis. But after the surgery I was in more pain than before. I had no strength and had a fear of falling. I had a severe stroke. I was in pain and unable to move my hands or legs. I couldn’t even stand on my own. I was frightened. I have a serious problem with my weight. The medical term is morbidly obese. It sounds bad, and it is. My weight has definitely adversely affected my health: I have diabetes, anemia, high blood pressure, the list goes on. It got to the point where I couldn’t even walk. I thought my situation was hopeless, but the moment I arrived at Triboro Center, the staff gave me my hope back. Their enthusiasm was contagious. The rehab team is absolutely wonderful. They treated me so nicely, and I loved working with them. We built a rapport, and they built up my strength. It took some time—ten weeks to be exact—but they got me back on my feet and back home. I had a stroke, which landed me in the hospital. But when the hospital scheduled my discharge, I was in no condition to go home: I couldn’t even walk. They said I should go to a nursing home to rehab. I dreaded it. I had this image of nursing homes: dark and depressing. Triboro Center was neither. The staff is friendly and professional, and the place itself is warm, clean and bright. And the rehab is terrific. I particularly like the Jintronix—a virtual game-like workout that gets you stronger. You took great care of me Triboro Center, and you not only made me better, you changed my whole perspective on rehab. My physical body was deteriorating. I couldn’t breathe without a ventilator and I was unable to walk, even on level surfaces. I was totally dependent on my caregivers – I couldn’t even turn in bed! Arthritis took my knee. After total knee- replacement surgery, I couldn’t even walk five feet. Moving around was difficult, my coordination was off, and I was at risk of falling. I had been laid up in a hospital bed for weeks, and when it was time for me to be discharged it was clear that I couldn’t be on my own. Agonizing pressure in my spine forced me to have unavoidable surgery. The surgeons removed part of my vertebra and inserted a spinal-simulator into my lower-back. While the agonizing pressure was gone, I was still in a lot of pain due to the treatment. I couldn’t walk, was perpetually weak, and unable do basic self-care like getting dressed. Then I came to Triboro Center for rehab and my world opened to new possibilities. All the staff was so welcoming and professional — they really knew how to run a facility! My health has been an area of great concern over the last few years. I have colon cancer and high blood pressure, and early this year I experienced respiratory failure. My strength, balance and endurance were all impaired. I could hardly move. But the one move I did make—going to Triboro Center—was the key to my recovery. The therapists are excellent. They designed a program of exercises for me that showed immediate results. And I have to add that not only are they great therapists, they are wonderful people! I am back home now with my family and I can function independently. But even though I’ve left Triboro Center, in a way the team is still with me. I had knee replacement surgery on my left knee. When I left the hospital, I was very unsteady—weak, and afraid of falling. I needed help before I could go home. I was fortunate to be admitted to Triboro Center. The staff was welcoming and kind. My first language is Spanish, and many of them spoke it as well. I had a pulmonary embolism, and on top of my other health issues, it threw me off. I was very unsteady, afraid to even try to walk with a cane. Coming to Triboro Center made a huge difference. I thought I couldn’t be helped. As an amputee with HIV, hypertension and Type 2 diabetes, the idea of being independent seemed like a long-lost dream. What’s worse was the unbearable pain and the inability to do my activities. Then, I was welcomed into Triboro Center for Rehab. I knew the staff cared because even they were happy I was getting therapy! The rehab was so good, there really isn’t anything that can compare.
